An ingenious blend of lush paddy fields, rocky cliffs, sprawling beaches, and exotic riverfront; Goa’s natural beauty is simply exhilarating. Its spectacular colonial churches, Portuguese-built house, fort-relics, bohemian flea markets, and appealing beach shacks add to its charismatic appeal.
Pack your travel gear and head to Goa’s sandy beaches for a perfect vacation by the sea. Soak in the sun, indulge in cool cocktails, swim in placid lagoons, go partying in beach clubs, and enjoy some beach sports- the options are unlimited!
Goa’s biggest allure lies in its spectacular beaches dotted with charming beach shacks, delightful cafes, chic night clubs, beach sports, and a sprinkling of yoga & meditation. The boisterous charm of Baga & Calangute, the quiet solitude of Palolem in South Goa, the hippie-haven at Anjuna, the action & adventure at Vagator, and the spectacular sunsets at Chapora beckon you to indulge in some beach fun. Other popular beaches in Goa are Arambol, Varca, Colva, Agonda, and Miramar.
Goa’s colorful past as a Portuguese colony is reflected in its colonial churches, Latin Quarters, old bungalows, and its many festivals & carnivals. Take a cycling tour of Fontainhas- the only Latin quarters in India, light a candle at the Basilica of Bom Jesus, check out the gorgeous architecture of Se Cathedral and walk through the ruins of Fort Agoda to trace the imprints of the lost glory of the Portuguese.
The beaches of Goa promise you endless fun and some thrilling action. Parasailing, water scooter, water skiing, banana boat rides, speed-boating, Ringo & bumpy rides, bungee jumping, paragliding, and windsurfing are some of the adrenalin pumping thrills to indulge in Goa.
The Goan capital Panjim, located on the banks of River Mandovi, is known for its charming markets, appealing restaurants and dazzling casinos on the river. Set sail on River Mandovi and feel the wind on your face as you enjoy the onboard cultural fare. For those with a daring nerve may buy a ticket to casino ships set offshore and enjoy a wild gambling spree.
You may buy silver jewelry, pretty beachwear, and local ceramic art from market lanes in Panjim. For a touch of Bohemian chic, do check out the Wednesday Flea market at Anjuna Beach and the two all-night markets, Ingo's Saturday Nite Bazaar and Mackie’s Night Bazaar in Baga-Arpora area. These markets with their live music, food stalls, and fascinating wares reflect the party spirit of Goa.
Goa carnival, held annually in February, is a picture of merriment and revelry. This colorful music & dance extravaganza lasting four days is a grand parade with spectacular floats, masked dancers, and strums of Goan-Portuguese music floating by.
Food in Goa is a delightful blend of colonial and Konkani flavors. Goan fish curry, Goan Sausage Bread, Lobster Reichado, and Crab Xec Xec are some of the gastronomic delights of Goa. Finish your meal with Bebinca, the multilayered Goan cake, and wash it down with some Goan Port wine.
Goa is best visited from October to May, before the monsoons set in. However, the peak tourist season begins in December and continues until February. Christmas, New Year and Goa Carnival, are the highlights of this period.
