Taj Mahal

A timeless romance etched in white marble, the Taj Mahal is the iconic symbol of immortal love. Situated on the banks of Yamuna, in the erstwhile Mughal capital Agra, the Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and a reflection of love, loss & yearning, the Taj Mahal lures travelers from across the world to soak in its serene ambiance and enduring heritage. Join us as we delve into its rich history and brilliant architecture to bring alive the glorious saga of this eternal monument of love.

Taj Mahal- The History

This beautiful structure, built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, was commissioned in 1632 AD. However, it took 22 years of brilliant craftsmanship by over 20,000 artisans to bring it to completion. Sculptors from Bukhara, calligraphers from Persia, stone-cutters from Baluchistan, and Italian craftsmen, employed at the Mughal Court, were involved in the creation of this magnificent monument.

Taj Mahal- The Architecture

Clad entirely in white marble, Taj Mahal was envisaged as a replica of Mumtaz Mahal’s paradisiacal home. This magnum opus is known for its superior symmetry, strict geometrical proportions, and sensuous attention to detail. As you enter from the majestic Darwaza-i-Rauza for the first sighting of the Taj Mahal, the experience is absolutely stunning. Rising on a platform between twin sandstone structures, Taj Mahal is a beautiful verse in stone. Its tall delicate minarets skillfully lean outward to prevent any destruction to the edifice in case of an earthquake. As you approach it through the lush Persian-styled gardens & clear reflecting pools, Taj Mahal’s aura seems to magnify. The central chamber contains two intricately carved tombstones, symbolizing the graves of Emperor Shah Jahan and his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, joined together in death. However, the actual graves are covered with cenotaphs and lie in a room right beneath the central chamber. A beautiful blend of ethereal & majestic the Taj Mahal’s visual appeal & unearthly aura has mesmerized travelers for centuries.

Taj Mahotsav

This 10-days cultural bonanza, celebrated at Shilpgram in Agra, takes you back in time to the Mughal & Nawabi culture of Uttar Pradesh during the 18th & 19th centuries. Royal processions with elephants & camels, skilled artisans from all parts of India, delicious Mughlai cuisine, and a range of colorful cultural activities are the highlights of Taj Mahotsav. The festival is generally held in February.

Best Time to Visit Taj

The Taj Mahal receives heavy footfall throughout the year, but the winter season from October to March is the best time to explore this spectacular complex. Check out the Taj on a full-moon night when the soft moon rays add to its romantic sheen.

- Memorable Experience !

Caper Travel designed a three week tour to Rajasthan and Goa for four of us in a private car during March. The driver, guides and everyone associated with the organisation were professional, reliable and punctual! We had an amazing time, made even better because of the good accomodation choices and extra additions, such as elephant and camel ride.
Thank you so much Caper for giving us a truly memorable experience of your beautiful country!
