A bustling city, sprawled on the banks of River Yamuna, Agra reflects the romance of the Mughal Era. Renowned for the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Agra is pretty much on top of every traveler’s Indian itinerary. The city, a part of the much-famed Golden Triangle of India, has dazzled in the limelight for centuries. However, there is much more to Agra than just the epic legend of the Taj Mahal. Come along as we explore its spectacular monuments, narrow alleyways, and busy bazaars to soak in its vibrant spirit.
Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, this majestic monument surpasses all bounds and redefines timeless beauty & grace. Its arched gateways, slender minarets, reflecting pool in Persian gardens, and the beautiful marble structure set on a rectangular platform, are sure to leave you spellbound. The interiors are ornate with Persian calligraphy, exquisite motifs, and lattice frames that depict the brilliant craftsmanship of the era. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the final resting place for Emperor Shah Jahan and his much-adored wife.
The monument was built by Akbar as a military structure, and his grandson Shah Jahan added the palaces, gardens, and mosques within the complex. This crescent-shaped fort with the beautiful Moti Masjid and many elegant palaces is another UNESCO-preserved monument in Agra. The fort finally became a gilded prison for Shah Jahan, who was dethroned by his son Aurangzeb and spent his final years here.
This sprawling city, built around 38 km from Agra, echoes with the tales of the grandeur of its royal past. Its magnificent Buland Darwaza, ornate palaces, graceful mosques, and beautiful gardens & tanks stand as a testimony to the artistic craftsmanship of the bygone era. This spectacular Mughal capital was deserted within 15 years of being built due to water paucity in the area.
An exemplar edifice, built in marble & red sandstone, Sikandra Fort is the final resting place of Emperor Akbar. A bit different from the rest of Mughal mausoleums that are the bulbous domed structures, Sikandra’s beauty lies in its rectangular symmetry, elegant minarets, lattice windows, and sprawling gardens.

Be sure to try spicy Dal Moth, hot jalebi, and sweetmeat Petha for the complete taste of Agra.
