Misty blue Nilgiri mountains, a dreamlike toy train, rows of tea & coffee plantations, a touch of colonial elegance, and the hustle-bustle of a little town in the hills- Ooty has all of it and more! Established as a hill retreat during the colonial era to beat the tropical Tamil heat, Ooty still retains its old-world charm and is still one of the most preferred hill destinations in south India. Well, the town has now reverted to its traditional name Udhagamandalam, but its nostalgic Ooty-snooty charms remain the same!.
Over a hundred years old and still going strong, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, fondly called the toy train, is loved by both adults and kids alike. Chugging through the mountains, bridges, and tunnels, this toy train from Mettupalayam to Ooty, with halts at quaint & charming stations, is certainly a slow but the most picturesque way to get to Ooty.
The highest point in the area, Dodabetta Peak at 8650 ft, is a gorgeous vantage point for spectacular sights of misty Nilgiris and expansive valley views.
