A lush, cool hill station in the burning desert of Rajasthan, Mount Abu is a wonder in itself. Nestled cozily in the lap of the Aravallis, and located at the border of Rajasthan & Gujarat, Mount Abu is a great vacation spot to get away from the tropical heat. The place finds mention in ancient Hindu texts as Arbudaanchal and is deeply seeped in myths & mystique. However, it developed as a hill station during the colonial era and still has its sprinkling of a few British-era bungalows & royal lodges. Welcome to this gorgeous town of verdant slopes, shimmering lake, exotic temples, and a host of legends & lore.
A gorgeous lake and the hotspot of Mount Abu, Nakki Lake is a nature lover’s delight. The legend of the lake goes that it was dug by goddess Arbuda Devi, the local deity, with her bare nails or nakh, hence the name- Nakki Lake. Check out this scenic lake and go boating on cute swan-shaped pedal boats.
A scenic drive amid the woods takes you this group of Jain temples renowned for aesthetic marble carvings. As you enter the complex, you are sure to be awed by the majestic gateway replete with detailed sculptures. Inside, the temples, dedicated to various Jain Tirthankaras, are adorned with exquisite carvings on walls pillars & ceiling, incised paintings, delicate arches, and etched marble figurines.
A meandering drive from Mount Abu takes you to this magnificent fort, much known for the giorgeous Mandakini Lake and Alchaleshwar Mahadev Temple located within its premises. Go up the fort for panoramic valley & hill views.
Guru Shikhar, the highest point in the region, promises you gorgeous views. The peak is home to a temple of Guru Dattatreya- a form of the divine trinity. The temple entrance is graced with huge bells that the devotees ring before entering the temple.
