Sitting majestically on the edge of the Thar Desert, the blue city of Jodhpur represents an oasis of magnificent architecture, bustling streets, and a vibrant spirit. The allure of the mighty Mehrangarh Fort, the opulence of the majestic Umaid Bhavan Palace, and the romance of its folk-lore makes Jodhpur a much-celebrated destination of Rajasthan. Walk-in narrow alleyways, indulge in delicious street food and soak in the cultural ambiance of this glorious citadel of the erstwhile Kingdom of Marwar.
The tall bastions of Mehrangarh Fort bear testimony to the valor of the Rajputs and the supreme sacrifice of their womenfolk. Standing atop a hill, this glorious fort is not only known for its strong fortifications but also its sprawling gardens, ornate palaces, and fine artwork. Check out the fort museum for a fascinating glimpse into the life & artifacts of the Marwar royalty.
This magnificent memorial built in remembrance of the much-loved king, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II of Jodhpur, stands on a lake right opposite Mehrangarh Fort. Built-in exquisite white marble, the monument features extensive grounds, carved gazebos, layered gardens, and a cluster of royal cenotaphs.
One of the grandest private dwellings in the world, Umaid Bhawan Palace, is the home of the descendants of Jodhpur royalty. A part of the palace, converted to a heritage hotel, offers you a fine opportunity to experience the royal opulence. Also, check out its quirky museum showcasing a range of artifacts from vintage cars to royal weapons and antique clocks.
