An off-beat destination from the regular travel circuit of Rajasthan Bikaner is an unpolished gem that is sure to surprise you at every corner. An imposing fort, lavish havelis, spectacular palaces, medieval temples, camel rides, and glorious sunsets on the Thar- Bikaner has it all and more! Founded in the late 15th century by Rao Bika, a Rajput chieftain, Bikaner retains its old-world charm, royal essence, and the romance of the desert.
The delicate stone carvings & vibrant Jain paintings of this 15th century Jain temple are as vibrant & colorful as they were centuries ago. It is believed that during its construction, 40,000 kg of clarified butter was used in the mortar instead of water, which still seeps through its floor & walls on very hot days.
This magnificent palace, built in red sandstone, is a beautiful blend of Indo-Islamic and European architecture. A part of the edifice has now been converted into a heritage hotel that promises you a royal experience. Enjoy royal cuisine, explore the palace estate, and check out its museum & the fourth largest library in the world.
Many curious travelers visit this peculiar temple to see the thousands of rats who live here and are fed by the devotees. Tread carefully, for if you step on a rat and kill it, you got to pay penance by offering a silver rat to the goddess!
Desert safari in Bikaner is a quieter experience as compared to the touristy one in Jaisalmer. Less commercialized & much serene, this camel ride takes you to the sands of Thar where spectacular sunsets, starry skies, blazing bonfires, and legends & lore of the desert are sure to charm you. Folk music & dance performances and delicious local food add to the safari experience.
