Ancient, imposing, and steeped deep in legends & lore- Ladakh is the land of ethereal beauty, Buddhist legacy, and pristine lakes. Its landscape, painted with indomitable mountains in dazzling hues, endless glaciers, rushing rivers, and sky-high passes, is simply magical. Its rugged terrain is an exotic cocktail for the adventure buffs who travel to Ladakh to feed their adventurous souls.
Buddhism is the way of life in Ladakh. White & golden monasteries, fluttering prayer flags, colorful prayer stones, and tinkling prayer bells create a mystical aura in the mountains. Even though the landscape is cold & stark, the people here are friendly & warm-hearted. Ever smiling faces and greetings of Juley welcome you to this surreal land.
Resplendent with serene Buddha statues, stunning murals, and red-robed monks, the mystical monasteries of Ladakh are mesmerizing. Meet the priests and listen to the folklore and myths attached to the monasteries. These monasteries come alive during festivals as monks perform masked dances and other rituals. Hemis, Diskit, Lamayuru, Alchi, Shey, and Spituk gompas are some of the most beautiful monasteries of Ladakh.
The lakes of Ladakh paint a picture of beauty and tranquility. Crystal waters, reflecting the azure skies and surrounding hues, mirror the ethereal soul of Ladakh.
Pangong Tso, Mirpal Tso, Tso Moriri, Nayak Tso, Tso Kar, Yarab Tso, Chagar Tso, and Kiagar Tso are some of the splendid lakes of Ladakh.
The soaring Himalayas in Ladakh evoke visions of adventure. This dreamland for adventure buffs offers a range of options. In summers, battle the white-waters of Zanskar River on a raft and walk upon a blanket of ice in winters as the river freezes. Drive a motorbike up to Khardung La, one of the highest motorable roads in the world, ride the double-humped camel in Nubra, and go quad biking, trekking & camping in the rough terrain of Ladakh.
Leh, the largest city in Ladakh, is the gateway to Ladakh. Spectacular Hemis & Thiksey monasteries, splendid Shanti Stupa, and Tibetan styled Leh Palace are some of the highlights of Leh.
The dramatic blues of Pangong Tso are wondrous! This huge lake, stretching from India to Tibet, is a trance-like vision that changes color with the changing light.
A vision of flourishing green amidst the stark brown of the cold desert, Nubra Valley is an oasis in Ladakh. Ultra-wide landscapes, pretty rivers, rainbow-hued flowers, charming trails, and the double-backed camels of Nubra are breathtaking.
A spectacular monastery, built in typical Tibetan style, Hemis Gompa is the seat of the Red Hat sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Resplendent with prayer bells, sacred Thangkas, Lord Buddha’s statue, and white-washed stupas, the Hemis monastery is home to the tantric side of Buddhism. Its annually celebrated Hemis Festival is a colorful affair as monks perform the sacred masked dance, known as Cham Dance.
Located on the Kargil-Ladakh highway, Lamayuru is the oldest and the largest of the many gompas in Ladakh. The area around the monastery has a crater-like surface, earning it the sobriquet of the moon land. A place of many legends and mysteries, Lamayuru Gompa is an intriguing feature of Ladakh.
