Bihar

Bihar

Pretty much off the travel track, Bihar is majorly visited for its blessed sacred Buddhist and Jain pilgrimages. The name Bihar is believed to originate from the word Vihara, alluding to the many Buddhist monasteries in the region. The realm of Buddha, an ancient seat of learning, and home to Ashoka’s edicts inscribed on his pillars, Bihar is the hallowed Buddhism country.

The Buddha circuit of Bihar, spanning across Bodhgaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, and Vaishali along with the state capital Patna, a religious hub for Sikhs, makes the most visited destinations in Bihar. Join us on a quick trip around the Buddha circuit and delve into the spiritual realm of Gautam Buddha.

Pilgrimage Bihar

Pilgrimage

Bodh Gaya, the place where Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment to become Buddha; Rajgir, where he often preached and meditated; and Vaishali, the venue for his last sermon, are the most visited Buddhist pilgrimages. Rajgir and Vaishali are also sacred to Jains as Vaishali was the birthplace of Mahavira, and Rajgir, the place where he spent many years of his life. Patna Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, is a much-visited Sikh pilgrimage.

Alluring Destinations of Bihar

Bodh Gaya

Bodh Gaya

Aptly described as the crucible of Buddhism, Bodh Gaya is the place where Prince Siddhartha meditated under the Bodhi tree and attained enlightenment to become Buddha- the enlightened one. The spectacular Mahabodhi temple marks various significant events during and after Buddha’s enlightenment through ancient votives and stupas.

Patna

Patna

Patna, the present capital of Bihar, earlier known as Patilputra, has been the capital of many powerful dynasties in the past. The birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, Patna is a much-venerated Sikh pilgrimage.

Vaishali

Vaishali

A prosperous town in the past, Vaishali is now an archeological site and a sacred pilgrimage for both Jain and Buddhist followers. It is the birthplace of Lord Mahavira, the last Jain preacher, and also the site of Buddha’s last sermon marked by an Ashokan Pillar.

Rajgir

Rajgir

Connected closely with both Buddhism and Jainism, Rajgir was once home to Lord Mahavira and Gautam Buddha, who spent a part of their lives in this ancient city. A magnificent World Peace Stupa stands at Griddhakuta or Vulture's Peak, a site where Buddha preached many sermons.

- Memorable Experience !

Caper Travel designed a three week tour to Rajasthan and Goa for four of us in a private car during March. The driver, guides and everyone associated with the organisation were professional, reliable and punctual! We had an amazing time, made even better because of the good accomodation choices and extra additions, such as elephant and camel ride.
Thank you so much Caper for giving us a truly memorable experience of your beautiful country!
