Mountaineering

Mountaineering is an exhilarating activity that not only brings one close to rejuvenating mountainscape but also gives the thrills of adrenaline rush. Sky-touching peaks, whistling wind, endless chains of mountains and a sea of clouds floating below are some of the breathtaking sights that lure adventure enthusiasts to climb the giant mountains. A set of such kind of activities done on the mountains for pleasure and recreation is called Mountaineering. It is generally of multiple days and is done on mountains with different terrains like snow, glaciers, ice and rock. Due to its long duration, people need to halt in between to recharge for the next leg. The shelter can be in base camps, a hut, a ten or snow caves.

Over the years, it is becoming popular in India as well with picturesque and giant mountain ranges like the Himalayas. The bountiful soul-satisfying sceneries and shifting terrain make India a preferred destination for enjoying mountaineering. The verdure of open meadows, slopes blanketed with ice, waterfalls cascading from staggering heights, snowy paths or heads in the clouds; you will be offered a whale of unforgettable experiences with nature. Find our picks of the best mountaineering destinations in India for a rip-roaring experience.

Mountaineering in India

Ladakh

Ladakh

With an otherworldly landscape of rocky terrain, Ladakh entices mountaineers with its unique and eye-catching scenery. It is also the only cold desert of India. The prime peaks to climb here are Kangyatse, Saser Kangri, Momostang Kangri, Nun and Kun and Stok Kangri. You need to be completely physically fit to combat with the harsh climate and terrain. Low atmospheric pressure is another challenge that is faced by the mountaineers.

Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh is loved for its beautiful hilly topography and picturesque hill-stations. An enchanting medley of vibrant green valleys, steep gorges, snow-capped mountains and rich wildlife make it a popular destination for mountaineering. Hanuman Tibba is the most famous peak ensconced amidst Dhauladhar mountain range. You can also choose to trek to Menthosa, Behali Jot, Papsura, Deo Tibba, Indrasan and Kharcha Parbat.

Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand is a beautiful hilly state of India composed of two regions Garhwal and Kumaon. 86% of the state is dominated by Himalayan peaks and glaciers making for a perfect place for mountaineering. It is followed by other towering peaks such as Kamet, Changabang, Trishul, Panwali Dwar, Maiktoli and Nanda Kot Peak.

Sikkim

Sikkim

Sikkim opens door to wonderful mountaineering places with the dizzyingly high peaks to scale. It blows minds boasting the second tallest peak in the world, Kangchenjunga, touching the sky at a striking height of 8586 m. After Mt. Everest, it is the most sought-after trekking destination. Rathong Glacier is another jaw-dropping climb you will love. It has a base camp at Chowrikiang where you can practice ice crafting prior to the climb.

Arunachal Pradesh

Caper Travel designed a three week tour to Rajasthan and Goa for four of us in a private car during March. The driver, guides and everyone associated with the organisation were professional, reliable and punctual! We had an amazing time, made even better because of the good accomodation choices and extra additions, such as elephant and camel ride.
Thank you so much Caper for giving us a truly memorable experience of your beautiful country!
